Chögyal Namkhai Norbu |
"Heritage and Evolution" is the theme for Chögyal Namkhai Norbu's 2015 visit in Australia.
“The Dzogchen teaching is not a philosophy, or a religious doctrine, or a cultural tradition. Understanding the message of the teachings means discovering one’s own true condition, stripped of all the self-deceptions and falsifications that the mind creates." Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, born in Tibet, came to the West in the early 1960's. He began teaching Dzogchen to western students in the 1970's, and is a Master of the Dzogchen (Total Perfection) teachings. As well as taking on the responsibility of teaching Dzogchen to thousands of students worldwide, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu was Professor of Tibetan and Mongolian Languages and Literature at the Oriental Institute of the University of Naples, Italy from 1964 to 1992. In 1976 he established the International Dzogchen Community, and later, both the Shang Shung Institute and A.S.I.A., for the preservation of Tibetan culture. |
Richmond Bird Wing Butterfly |
The symbol of the Richmond Bird Wing butterfly reminds us of the impermanence of time and the importance to act for the benefit of others by maintaining our precious heritage. The Richmond Bird Wing butterfly is an endangered species, native of the Sunshine Coast. As well as acting directly to preserve the Dzogchen teachings and keep Tibetan culture alive for future generations, Namgyalgar took the commitment to help this amazing butterfly to survive in our region by planting vines necessary for their survival. |
Register for the 2015 Retreat
|
Chögyal Namkhai Norbu's request is that we don’t charge fees for his teachings. Rather these precious teachings should be supported and arranged collaboratively by the host Gar and Sponsors. This excellent behaviour is summarised in the final paragraphs of the document as the 6 points related to the 6 Spaces of Samantabhadra.
In May, an extraordinary act of generosity by a member of our community has raised the distinct possibility of us being able to offer the 2015 retreat by Donation only! People who might otherwise never have the opportunity to meet Rinpoche will be able to do so. Even though the sponsorship call is over, we warmly welcome further donation as an offering for Namgyalgar and the teachings. You will be able to do so at the registration page. |

Food for Thought |
Meals need to be ordered online before the retreat -
a limited number of one-off orders will be available at the retreat. Claudia has agreed to bring Claude's Food Van from the eclectic Eumundi Markets to Namgyalgar North for the duration of the retreat. She will provide lunch and supper options that encompass vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, meat lover and dairy free palates. From the evening of 3rd to lunch on 8th of November 2015, we will be offered a varied lunch and supper menu, changing daily, with a greater variety being determined by the number of retreatants who secure their meals in advance. "Being a chef I take great care to produce delicious food with inspiration from all around the world." And here is a final word from Claudia: "We can be a bit flexible, as things like weather may dictate what will be popular on any given day. Basically everything is vegetarian unless they choose to add the bbq chicken or pork and there's always the tofu option as well. There's also loads of gluten/dairy free options." |

Eating Out and About |
And just in case you are in the mood for a change of scenery, there are always local restaurants and pub meals available at the nearby villages of Glass House Mountains, Beerwah and Landsborough.
|
Coffee and cake within 5 minutes walk of the Gar - at Lookout Cafe. Rarely does it get much better than this, with magnificent views overlooking mango trees, open paddocks and grazing families of kangaroos. And if you want to walk off some of that cake afterwards, it is only a 10 minute walk up the road to the famous Glass House Lookout with its 270 degree vista of the Glass House Mountains, Sunshine Coast, Pumicestone Passage and Bribie Island.
|
We suggest a stop by the GlassHouse Coffee & Tea Merchants, on Steve Irwin Way - only 10 minutes drive from the Gar - enjoy the lovely ambience of the surrounds and the occasional entertaining musicians. Or try the home-made pasta, delicious deli goods and sweet treats from Pasta D'Vine restaurant in Beerwah. The owners Oskar and Suzan Schlapa have supplied Beerwah with deli goods, homemade pasta dishes and cakes for more then six years.
|
In Landsborough just opposite the train and bus interchange, try the old fashioned Bucks Bakery, considered to be one of best on the Sunshine Coast. Pies, yummy cakes and slices, a variety of freshly baked breads, sandwiches or rolls, coffee to suit all tastes - to eat in or take away.
