  Glasshouse Mountains     Glasshouse Mountains

During his visit to Australia in 2009, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu recommended that a Gar be established in northern Australia, specifically in the Glasshouse Mountains region of south-east Queensland. So the Namgyalgar Gakyil has launched the ”Namgyalgar North” project and is seeking pledges for donations to help purchase a suitable property for the new Gar.

The Glasshouse Mountains are the eroded remnants of volcanoes which have interesting shapes, some with vertical columns and cones on them, which are visible from the property. Historically, the region was a special meeting place where Aboriginal people once gathered and is still considered spiritually significant with many protected ceremonial sites still in existence.

The mountains are situated approximately 70km north of the city of Brisbane, and are easily accessible by car, train and bus. The Brisbane Domestic and International Airports are less than 30 minutes drive north to the mountains. It is also possible to fly from Brisbane to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast and hire a car there.

The new Gar will be located close to the town of Beerwah, not far from Caloundra and other coastal towns which boast sunny beaches, shops, cafes, clubs, holiday acccommodation, etc. The subtropical Sunshine Coast has one of the highest sunshine ratings in the world, averaging seven hours of sunshine daily and residents and visitors enjoy year round warm balmy temperatures. Summer temperatures range between 16°-34°C and in winter 10°- 28°C.

This is a very exciting project and it is hoped many Vajra brothers and sisters from around the world can come to visit the wonderful new Gar!

Making a Donation for Namgyalgar North

If you wish to make a donation for the creation of Namgyalgar North, please complete the Donation Pledge Form here. A “pledge” is an offering for the new Gar which is not required to be paid until it is sure that the property can be purchased. At that time we will give you the bank details to donate the amount you have pledged.

Thanking you for your collaboration,
Namgyalgar North Steering Committee
